SOME TIPS FOR PARAPHRASING A TEXT - PART 3

In today's article, I would like to propose two more rules for rephrasing sentences in your own words.

As always, I would like to remind you that these rules were put together in collaboration with a client of mine, Magdalena Schmidt. We initially extracted them from sentences taken from newspaper articles and, subsequently, Magdalena kindly took it upon herself to compile them into a document from which I, with her permission, am now drawing.

RULE 5:

Modify the sentence in such a way that a direct object can be added after the verb.

EXAMPLE:

Il medico deve farsi trovare. È la legge.

Il paziente deve poter trovare il medico. È la legge.

the doctor (direct object)

RULE 6:

Switch from an active to a passive sentence and vice versa.

EXAMPLE:

Il paziente deve trovare il medico quando necessario. (active sentence)

Il medico deve essere trovato dal paziente quando necessario. (passive sentence)

This list of rules that I am, week after week, sharing with you is an example of how it is possible to play with a language and adapt a message to the linguistic tools available to us at any given time, in order to achieve certain communicative goals.
